Service

Kappa Mu Chapter, Johns Hopkins University

Service

Kappa Mu completes over 5000 hours of service each semester. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we have transitioned to serving the community virtually, providing nearly 1000 hours of service last semester. We pride ourselves in giving back to the Baltimore community.

Current Service Opportunities

Monument Quilt

Help sew/put together the Monument Quilt (the art piece that won the Artscape 2016 award for the best piece). This is an art installation that is meant to raise awareness of sexual assault and help victims share their stories.

Squashwise

Squashwise is a tutoring project for KIPP middle and high school students. They come in with work and are allowed to play squash as a reward for completion.
Volunteers/Tutors are not required to play Squash. They are simply asked to help with completion of assignments.

Keswick Musical Entertainment

Volunteers are needed to transport elderly residents. The event lasts for about 2 hours; residents are then transported back to their rooms, if they desire.

Second Chance

Second Chance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides people, materials and the environment with a second chance. They deconstruct buildings and homes, salvage usable materials and make those available to the public through our 200,000 square feet of retail space. With the revenue generated, they provide job training and workforce development for those with employment obstacles in the Baltimore region.

Remington Homework Club

RHWC is a tutoring and mentoring project that we do at the Church of the Guardian Angel in Remington. Children range from 1st-8th grade. You will be cooking and serving dinner to both kids and mentors.
